Book Giveaway: Shadowshaper

Vamos a Leer | Book Giveaway

We’re giving away a copy of Shadowshaper written by Daniel José Older–our featured novel for January book group meeting!! Check out the following from Goodreads:

Sierra Santiago was looking forward to a fun summer of making art, hanging out with her friends, and skating around Brooklyn. But then a weird zombie guy crashes the first party of the season. Sierra’s near-comatose abuelo begins to say “No importa” over and over. And when the graffiti murals in Bed-Stuy start to weep…. Well, something stranger than the usual New York mayhem is going on.

Sierra soon discovers a supernatural order called the Shadowshapers, who connect with spirits via paintings, music, and stories. Her grandfather once shared the order’s secrets with an anthropologist, Dr. Jonathan Wick, who turned the Caribbean magic to his own foul ends. Now Wick wants to become the ultimate Shadowshaper by killing all the others, one by one. With the help of her friends and the hot graffiti artist Robbie, Sierra must dodge Wick’s supernatural creations, harness her own Shadowshaping abilities, and save her family’s past, present, and future.

Looks like a fun and unique page-turner! An “action-packed urban fantasy from a bold new talent“! This would make an excellent addition to any personal or classroom library! To be entered in the giveaway, just comment on any post on the blog by January 4th.  Everyone who comments between December 1st and January 4th will be entered in the drawing.  If your name is chosen, we’ll email you ASAP about mailing the book to you.

Don’t forget, we also raffle off a copy of the following month’s featured novel at each book group meeting.  So if you’re an Albuquerque local, join us for a chance to win!

Good luck!

  1. I’ve never read a supernatural mystery. From the reviews on Goodreads, this one looks like a winner. I had the pleasure of hearing Mr. Older speak at a conference where he talked about the process of writing.

    • Thank you for commenting, Stephanie–It’s a great read! We will be publishing an author’s profile of Older later in early January, too, so stay tuned! We’ll also enter you in the raffle =)

    • Thanks so much for stopping by the blog! We’re really excited to be reading this book for January. The teachers in our book group are already talking about how much they think their students will enjoy it. I just read it this week and loved it! It’s a great book that can be used in the classroom to broach so many important topics.

      • Haha 🙂 Thanks for stopping by the blog! It’s definitely a different genre for our book group, but our teachers are all talking about how much they think their students will enjoy it. I just finished it this week, and loved it! We’ve got you entered in the giveaway!

    • Hi Albrisa! Thanks for stopping by the blog. This is the first book by Daniel Jose Older that I’ve read, and I loved it. I’ll have to check out Salsa Nocturna now. Thanks for the suggestion. We’ve got you entered in the giveaway!

  2. I have heard nothing but absolutely stellar things about this novel! I can’t wait to read it (one way or the other)!

(PS This comment was edited to remove a poorly-thought out, 3am-brain, use of the term “booyah”)

    • Thanks for stopping by the blog! Who doesn’t love a comment that works in the use of “booyah” 🙂 The reviews are all great for Shadowshaper. I just read it last week and have to agree, I loved it. We’ve got you entered in the giveaway.
