Join the National Hispanic Cultural Center and the UNM Latin American & Iberian Institute(LAII) as we explore the history of Día de los Muertos in two different workshops designed specifically for educators.
“Día de los Muertos: Ofrendas, Papel Picado & Alfeniques” will be held on Saturday September 7, 2013 from 10:00 – 2:00 at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, Education Building.
In this free half-day professional development opportunity, participants will learn how to integrate Día de los Muertos into their classrooms with this hands-on, arts based workshop. “Día de los Muertos: Skeletons and Cultural Literacy” will be held on Tuesday September 24, 2013 from 5:00-8:00 at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, Education Building.
For this second free professional development opportunity, we will continue looking at how to integrate Día de los Muertos into our classroom curriculum through hands-on art and literacy based activities with a special focus on skeleton based activities for reading, writing, and art. Thought sugaír skulls were difficult to make? Let us show you how fun they really are! On the first Thursday of the month, the National Hispanic Cultural Center invites adults for creative fun in a relaxed, social setting which includes chips, salsa and cash bar to fuel your creative juices. Each session features a different art-making technique and materials. This is a free, community event, but we invite donations in any amount to help support the project and pay artists! - Vamos al Museo!! Saturday October 19th, 2013 10:30-2:30 at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, Education Building
On the first Saturday of the month, the Education Program invites families and educators for a short tour of the Art Museum, followed by a hands-on, artist-led, art-making session inspired by the tour. This is a free event and limited to 30 participants each session. This Saturday we will be making sugar skulls!! Thought sugar skulls were difficult to make? Let us show you how fun they really are! Come join us for Music, Poetry, Mexican Chocolate and Pan deMuerto. This is a great event for all ages. Tour the ofrendas around the NHCC campus, enjoy music, traditional foods, and sharing of special and heartfelt memories. A free event for the whole community.
