As many of our readers seem to be very interested in resources for teaching about Hispanic Heritage Month, I thought I’d write a quick post with links to more resources I’ve come across recently. If you haven’t read other posts we’ve shared on the topic, check out Ailesha’s and Cindy’s ideas.
The Zinn Education Project has posted a number of resources to their facebook page. If you haven’t checked their page out yet, definitely do so. Like it to get daily updates with great ideas and information for the classroom.
- They shared an extensive list of resources related to teaching about Latino issues on their teaching activities page, including pdf versions of some great lessons from various teaching guides.
- They included a link to Justseeds: Artists’ Cooperative where you can find a set of posters that describe six key Latina/o struggles over the past 100 years.
- They also shared some great information about a new film, Harvest of Empire. It’s great for Hispanic Heritage Month or for teaching about Latino history anytime of the year. It’s based on the book of the same title by Juan Gonzalez. Check out their link to see the trailer http://bit.ly/JyDPM9. Their guess (and mine) is that you’ll want to want to watch the whole thing.
Hope you find this useful! We’ll continue to share any new resources we come across. If you have any other ideas please share them with us in the comments section below!
